Proponents of belief in a creator God argue that no harm can follow if the God you imagine does not exist and that reward will follow if the God you imagine does exist. That argument fails because a creator God that you cannot imagine might exist and because that creator God could have a cause for being absent that differs from the God you imagine.
Evidence extant within this universe points to what cause the creator God that you cannot imagine might have for being absent. Using that evidence to support your decisions will support that cause and truly take no risk if the creator God you cannot imagine is also nonexistent.
The universe itself is the most authoritative source of information. The information offered by the universe was written by the God that you imagine or by the God that you cannot imagine. If neither God exists, the universe does exist and you have no need to edit or translate because universal information is available to all individuals in their own language.
Two bits of evidence are specially telling; equality and autonomy of individuals.
You have no superior. Even if a civilization exists elsewhere which is a million years more advanced, they too will make use of the information provided by this same universe. They too, are likely to be limited to what knowledge they can garner from this universe. No inhabitant of this universe is likely to be privy to information beyond it. On this planet, others arrived before you. They have had more time to build a knowledge base. That does not make them superior to you. It just means that they arrived here before you did. No individual is superior to you. No individual is inferior to you. No one has access to knowledge that you cannot acquire by yourself and use to support your own decisions.
You hold absolute autonomy. You can make decisions, garner knowledge sufficient to support your decisions, modify the potentials and correct the errors of your decisions, determine the fairness, justice, ethics and morality of your decisions, cover the cost of your decisions, learn from all your experience and earn wisdom applicable to future decisions. You might never know if you decided to visit this universe. What you do know is that your parents or a laboratory technician decided that your body will visit this universe. At first, primary caregivers made all the decisions and took all the responsibility for your existence. But no one expected you to stay that way. As you acquired knowledge sufficient to support your decisions, you were expected to make them and learn from them and stand responsible for them. In a protected environment, you were nourished and nurtured and encouraged to progress from dependence to independence. And you could go much further by becoming a unique individual and building a sovereign life space for your self by the continued practice of making decisions and standing responsible for every product and every result of every decision.
Even though you might not have decided to visit this universe and even though that biomechanical device that you call your body is comprised of material constituent of this universe which you probably did not create, your autonomy is so absolute that you can destroy your body and reject this whole enterprise. You are absolutely autonomous.
Why is God absent?
Did God have a purpose for this universe? Does being absent accomplish something? How can we learn?
What does the universe say about God?
God is absent.
No known inhabitant of this universe can access information beyond what the universe provides.
No evidence of eternity but transformations follow laws of conservation.
What does the universe say about you?
No evidence of any being of superior evolution to human, as yet.
A being of superior evolution to human yet also restricted to inhabit this universe in a body formed of material constituent of this universe would likely also be restricted to the use of that information provided by this universe.
No evidence of any human having a value superior or inferior to another.
No evidence of any human privy to superior knowledge.
No evidence of any human privy to superior powers.
No evidence of any power but the power of decision.
Every individual holds the power of decision.
Every individual is informed by thoughts, feelings, conscience, memory and environmental senses.
Every individual is equipped with a body comprised of material constituent of this universe.
No atom of justice or molecule of morality exists yet your conscience knows them.
You can use your imagination to formulate beliefs using the information given.
One belief can be stated: "you are absolutely equal". That belief can be tested.
The universe will continue to thrive after your body expires. The universe will continue to thrive even if your species expires. It seems that the universe values you the same as it does your entire species. Consider the difference between one plus one and one times one. The universe values individuals one times one. That is absolute equality.
One belief can be stated: "you are absolutely autonomous". That belief can be tested.
Consider that part of you which uses the word I. Call it your soul, essence, animus, spirit or executive nerve ganglia. It is the part of you which makes decisions. Your I part has absolute dominion over your body, even to destroy it. When you form a decision from the words I am and or I will and or I want, that decison cannot be affected by any force in this universe. Its outbound potentials can be mitigated. Its method of effect can be mitigated. The activity of your body can be mitigated. But your decision cannot be affected, even by the death of your body. That is absolute autonomy.
One belief can be stated: "you exist to individuate". That belief can be tested.
Individuals, alone, hold the power of decision. You hold the power of decision. Your conscience enables you to judge your decisons, potentials and methods for fairness, justice, ethics and morality. You can acquire knowledge sufficient to support and to modify and to correct your decisions, potentials and methods. When you cover the cost of your decisions and any errors, you earn wisdom to support and facilitate and guide future decisions. By committing a life long series of decisions and by acquiring knowledge and by earning wisdom sufficient to support them, you develop.
Would you be the sole individual ever to inhabit this universe, eternal values like fairness, justice, ethics and morality would be here with you because you are the source or the conduit. Your conscience, whether it be a facet of that part of you which uses the word I or a mechanism that communicates with that part of you, is the solitary mechanism within this universe which can assess eternal values and issue judgments. Would you be the solitary inhabitant of this universe and then leave it, the universe would be devoid of fairness, justice, ethics and morality and have no means to know them.
Of billions of individuals living now and of billions more having lived before and of unknown billions or trillions of individuals living elsewhere in this universe, by all knowledge, you are the only you.
Becoming you and being you seems to be important to the universe.
By being absent, the creator God that you cannot imagine makes it clear that you are absolutely equal with every other individual and absolutely autonomous and that all individuals can access the same information to support their decisions.
Can we suppose that the creator God does not want us to exercise autonomy?
Can we suppose that the creator God does not want us to stand equal?
Can we suppose that the creator God does not want us to use universal information?
Can we suppose that the creator God does not want us to use our conscience?
Can we suppose that the creator God does not want us to stand responsible?
